Wow, what a year it was for the online casino world! First and foremost, the team here at NewSlotSite.co.uk wished you a very happy new year – and thanks for reading and supporting our slots guide last year. As you know, it was the very first year we launched and we haven’t looked back!
As you may recall, there were some serious jackpot wins last year. There are many progressive jackpot games available to play, ranging from several hundred thousand to multi-millions!
Notable progressive slots are Mega Fortune (Netent) and Mega Moolah Slot (Microgaming) but there are so many more nowadays.

Branded Slots: Highlights
We feel that Netent are getting a bit of a praise here, but it is true that they released some amazing slots in 2017, many of which were what we called “big blockbuster” ones too!
The first half of the year brought some fairy-tale inspired slots such as Fairy-tale Legends Hansel and Gretel Slot and some other filler slots which were fun, but nothing totally ground-breaking. It wasn’t until the summer arrived, that the (infamous) Emoji Planet Slot also did, which nicely coincided with the movie that was released at the same time (No, we didn’t catch the movie either!) Emoji Planet Slot is fun and really gimmicky, but well worth a spin or 2.
Several months later we saw the launch of the hotly anticipated Planet of The Apes Slot, which was actually was a huge success by all accounts, according to Netent. The slot is of course based on an amalgamation of Rise of The Planet of The Apes Film and also Dawn of The Planet of the Apes Film and coincided nicely with the new film launched in November 2017 too.
There were of course several other notable slots that launched in 2017, aside from hundreds of others out there from various different software companies, these ones really stood out from the rest.
Let’s also not overlook Microgaming and Netent’s “battle of the slots” - The Phantom of The Opera Slot! Netent were admittedly first with their version in August 2017. Netent’s version was in fact part of their Universal Horror franchise of slots (Creature from The Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man and Dracula) and was received with a luke warm receptions.
Microgaming then released their version several weeks later. This version? Well, it based on Lloyd Webbers musical (the famous soundtrack included) ad was really authentic to how we see Phantom of The Opera. Sorry Netent – Microgaming really out did you on that one!
Looking ahead, what will 2018 bring? We do have some rather interesting highlights you might want to look out for this year. Although most software companies like Netent like to keep mum about many of their plans, the team here at New Slot Site will be finding out more when we visit the massive iGaming Conference ICE next month, but here’s what we can tell you so far:
Janaury 2018: January will see a new release of the exclusive Twin Spin Deluxe slot (you can read our full Twin Spin Deluxe review already) but what we’re looking forward already is the main January release of Universal Monsters: The Phantom’s Curse. This slot launches on January 24th 2018. Will it be like Phantom of The Opera or perhaps The Invisible Man Slot? Only one way to find out; we will be updating you with a full sneak peak soon!
February 2018: The 22nd February brings another Norse themed online slot from Netent. It's fair to say that there have been a quite a few Norse themed online slots popping up recently (likely thanks for popular “Vikings” TV series) and Februaries slot will be called Asgardian Stones Slot. We will be one of the first to cover this slot for a full review as soon as we get the information, so make sure you check back or subscribe to our newsletter or Google Chrome Messages for breaking news.
March 2018: The last highlight we have for Q1 2018 from Netent is the awesome sounding Miami Pursuit Slot. We don’t have a lot more to go on that that, but we can say that by March time, we will all be more than ready for a bright and summer vibe online slot – so fingers crossed it will be!
Since we love trying out new Slot sites, stay tuned this week as we will be reviewing more new slot sites 2018 for you to try out this gloomy January! Here's some recommended casino sites to check out int he meantime.
